The Zadar region is actually one of Croatia's 21 Counties. It has a truly amazing geographical position, located in the centre of the East Adriatic and surrounded by stunning nature of great variety. This is the place where natural and cultural heritage coexists in perfect harmony and where lovely coastal resorts provide excellent conditions for both active vacation and relaxed family holiday.
As the centre of the region and the former capital of Dalmatia, the 3000-year old city of Zadar is the starting point of many excited visitors. It is a proud city of rich and interesting tradition and amazing cultural heritage, however it is by no means only of that reputation, as little coastal towns like Biograd and Nin clearly show how the whole area was tremendously important for Croatian Kings, as well as for the great empires of the Romans, Venetians, Turks, Hungarians and Austrians respectively.

National parks, nature parks, islands, reserves, woods, fields, groves, bays, coves and beaches are all integral part of that great nature story that captures the heart and intrigues the mind, so be sure to come and see for yourself what inspires thousands and thousands of visitors to always come back in search for new experiences in some friendly and familiar setting of the Zadar region!
Here are some ideas where to go:
Una River Spring
Visit one of the most beautiful karst springs that, luckily, has not yet left any cave divers breathless, so that we may enjoy their many fantastic photographs! At its source, the Una river has created a fairy-tale-like lake of blue and green, surrounded by forests and steep cliffs. This lake is the deepest karst source in Croatia, and one of the five deepest karst sources in the world. Due to both its astounding beauty and exceptional hydromorphological value the lake was, together with the canyon and 150 metres of its downstream flow, declared a protected hydrological natural monument in 1968.
Cerovac Caves
If you’re interested in seeing what the place where cave bears used to live looks like, then Cerovac Caves are the perfect place to satiate your curiosity!
Cerovac Caves, the largest cave system in Croatia, are located just four kilometres from Gračac, on the territory of the Lika-Senj County. They were discovered during the construction of the Lika Railroad in 1924, by the railroad builder Nikola Turkalj. They were named after the Cerovac railroad station. These caves are also one of the biggest sites of the cave bear in Croatia, and they were the place of the discovery of a bronze axe and fossilised human bones that belonged to a ˝cave bear hunter˝ who lived here approximately 20 thousand years ago.
The Cerovac caves are currently closed for visits due to project implementation.
